Tips for tackling a My Lighthouse: Explore© creative task

You might find yourself intimidated about being asked to do a creative task. It's a lot easier to be asked to do something very clear and specific, like a piece of homework - but being told "do something based on your own reflections on this theme, anything and any way you like" can flummox you! The problem is, if I told you to go do X, it would limit you and it won't be YOU - it would be MY idea about what you should do. And that won't work.

I have created these videos which show me doing my own take on each creative task. And it's completely deliberate that I'm showing you I'm not a brilliant artist or crafter or anything, yet I can use creativity to get an idea across - I hope! So in turn, you should do whatever YOUR take is!

But how? And where to start? I suggest you should watch the video, see what ideas it sparks. And if it doesn't spark any particular idea, LEAVE IT, go away and come back and watch again and see what happens. And then LEAVE it and repeat until you know what you want to do. Because it will be like a little seed germinating in your mind, and then you might suddenly know what you want to do! That's my process, anyway. Yours might be different. But the key for me is to LEAVE it and let it lie, not worry about it or force something. I am creating modules and often I have no idea what I will do as my creative task in the module even though I know the theme, and so I leave it.. and then it comes. These things take time for me, too. Use any medium you like, and any style you like. Just use the theme as your guide to navigate your own way to create something that expresses YOU.

All the best, and happy exploring and creating!
